News and Insight - The Cancer Awareness Trust announce Andy Taylor, Founding Member of Duran Duran, as latest Ambassador
New Ambassador: Andy Taylor
Andy Taylor, guitarist, writer and founding member of Duran Duran becomes an Ambassador for UK Cancer Charity, The Cancer Awareness Trust, founded by Prof. Sir Chris Evans.
In November 2022, Andy Taylor, guitarist, writer & founding member of Duran Duran revealed he had been diagnosed with incurable stage four metastatic prostate cancer in a letter read aloud by the band at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. The cancer diagnosis meant Andy had to miss what would have been one of the highlights of his life, but it also opened a world of support for his cancer journey, not least from Prof. Sir Chris Evans, Founder of the Cancer Awareness Trust.
Surprised by the severity and stage of Andy’s reported diagnosis, Sir Chris reached out to Andy’s team via Hipgnosis Songs Fund to offer his support and that of the cancer experts he has brought together through his charity, the Cancer Awareness Trust. Sir Chris and his team quickly identified a number of ways they could, and since have, significantly improved Andy’s prognosis and journey ahead.
Since his diagnosis, Andy has been vocal about the challenge he’s faced trying to find expert, trusted and specific information to help make informed decisions about his cancer. Information that would help him to assess his options, to know of available testing and how this could make a difference to his journey.
“Before Sir Chris and his team reached out, I felt lost and frustrated by my diagnosis. I was unclear on my options and what I should do. The kindness, knowledge and support Sir Chris and his team have given in abundance, has literally given me and the family, my life back. Prostate cancer is one of the biggest killers of men despite there now existing multiple ways to get tested, easily and then treated appropriately. People need to be able to find this information fast and easily. It exists, it’s just difficult to find. There also needs to be a revolution in men’s healthcare about prostate cancer, a breaking down of the stigmas associated with getting tested. The Cancer Awareness Trusts’ vision for a Cancer Platform is what we need and why I’m becoming an Ambassador. The revolution starts here.”

Currently in its early stages of development, The Cancer Awareness Trust has been created to transform cancer outcomes globally. It is a movement backed by philanthropists (led by Sir Chris), bringing together experts in tech and cancer from around the world with the primary purpose of building the Cancer Platform – a world first, free to use, global resource that will help people quickly and easily find cancer information they can trust. A UK focused iteration is launching in winter 2023.
“Andy’s decision to become an Ambassador for The Cancer Awareness Trust is such a poignant moment as we continue to make important strides in taking forward the development of The Cancer Platform. The wholehearted support from such a renowned musician who is facing his own challenges with prostate cancer means so much to us all who are trying to make a real difference to the lives of people living with cancer.”
Professor Sir Chris Evans, Founder, The Cancer Awareness Trust & The Evamore Project.
Andy joins as our second ambassador. Nina Lopes was announced in 2022 while further individuals are expected to join us in 2024. Our ambassadors are all incredible people living with cancer. They will help to shape our platform, whilst we aim to amplify their journeys in the hope of helping others seeking inspiration and guidance for their own cancer journeys.
If you are looking for help navigating a prostate cancer journey, there are a number of great organisations who can support you whilst the Cancer Platform is in development. We recommend the following two organisations: True North (Movember) – advice and support for people globally or Prostate Cancer UK – advice and support for people in the UK.
